They were six years old and best of friends …..and loved to play pretend …..
He told her that he’d marry her …..and love her till the end …..
But then he said he he had to go …..couldn’t stay out in the park
Said he’d be her husband for a while …..but had to be home before dark
So then she said she’d marry him …..she’d love him till the end …..
But knew she couldn’t stay for long …..her parents – well, they’d send
Her sister to come get her, ’cause it was time for bed

I’ll pick some flowers for my bouquet …..
He smiled and knew just what to say …..
I’ll marry you tomorrow ……if we can find the time

So through the years, as they grew up, they stayed the best of friends
And lots of time they used to say …..I’ll love you to the end
Then they were older and things changed …..each went their separate ways
But she always thought about him …..and thought of when she’d say –

So then one day when he went home, to where he used to live
He thought he’d look around …..and maybe it would give
Life to that feeling that was there, that wouldn’t go away
That feeling he should move, or maybe he should stay
So things seemed fine, but not okay …..why move back to this town
He packed his bags, prepared to leave, but couldn’t help but frown
Until he saw her standing there …..he stood so very still …..
And felt his heart beat faster …..and knew it always will …..

So then he looked and smiled at her …..and knew he’d found his friend …..
The one who’d always love him …..right to the very end …..

I’ll marry you tomorrow …..if you can find the time …..

She smiled and knew just what to say …..

if we can find the time …..
